Steven R. Perles
Steve Perles is the senior attorney and founder of the Perles Law Firm.
Steve is a leader in private litigation against state sponsors of terrorism. Over his 40-plus-year career, Steve has represented victims of terrorism and has expanded the scope of relief available to victims of terrorism both through litigation and in cooperation with Congress and various administrations.
Steve received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Alaska in cultural anthropology and economics and his JD from William & Mary. He began his private practice in 1981 after serving as Chief Legislative Assistant and Staff Attorney for Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), the former president pro tem of the Senate and chairman of the Senate Commerce Committee who sadly passed away in an aircraft accident in 2010.
Steve is an adjunct professor at William & Mary. He is actively involved in philanthropy, as well as in advocacy on terror victim issues.
Joshua K. Perles
Josh Perles conducts federal trial and appellate litigation. In addition, Josh has extensive investigatory experience, managing a team of investigators, forensic accountants, and translators, as well as banking, national security, terrorism, and cybersecurity experts.
Before joining the firm, Josh worked for several years in China on negotiating public-private environmental engineering test-bed projects, as well as translating the resultant research.
Josh received his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Michigan and his JD from New York University School of Law. His note on Chinese intellectual property protections was published in the NYU Journal of International Law and Politics and won that journal’s annual award for best student note.
Edward MacAllister
Ed MacAllister works on civil litigation matters at the Perles Law Firm, drafting and arguing motions and appellate briefs for clients in various matters before federal district and appellate courts.
Ed earned a history degree from the University of Maryland at College Park and a JD from the George Washington Law School.
Emily Amick
Emily Amick works on federal trial and appellate litigation matters as well as policy issues related to the firm’s cases.
Before joining Perles Law Firm, Emily was counsel to Senator Charles E. Schumer (NY), working on issues such as terrorism, gun control, and surveillance. Prior to working on the Hill, Emily was an attorney at Sanctuary for Families in New York City, where she provided legal representation to human trafficking victims and was the legislative director of the New York State Anti-Trafficking Coalition.
Emily attended Wellesley College, holds an MA in journalism from the University of Alabama, a JD from Columbia University School of Law, and an LLM in international criminal law from the University of Amsterdam.
